Environmental Trainees are hired into a 12-month training program, which consists of on-the-job training to learn the duties of an environmental inspector in a specific environmental field. Employees in the trainee job will learn applicable regulations and policies and assist more experienced employees in performing inspections of assigned facilities. Trainees may become Safe Drinking Water inspectors, Storage Tanks inspectors, Wastewater Treatment Plant inspectors, Air Quality inspectors, among others. Travel is required for these positions but does not typically include overnight stays. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. DEP vehicles can be signed out to facilitate travel to and from inspection sites. Inspections may require employees to negotiate uneven or rough terrain, sometimes while carrying test equipment.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,890 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: - A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement:
