Job Description

City Cast is seeking a highly creative and collaborative contractor to join our City Cast Chicago team as a part-time Social Media Manager for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and Reddit. In this role, you’ll be responsible for social content creation, ideating and executing videos and static posts, and building social communities on behalf of the City Cast Chicago team and brand. You’ll closely collaborate with City Cast’s Director of Marketing and the Executive Producer to leverage social to build the City Cast Chicago brand. 

The ideal candidate has passion and knowledge about all things Chicago: the 95-96 Bulls, deep dish pizza, and everything in between. We’re looking for someone who has experience in content creation but also understands the nature of building a new brand on multiple social media platforms.

This is a part-time, temporary 1099 contractor position. The role is expected to last three months, with a commitment of 20 hours per week. There is potential for this contract to be renewed. As a contractor, you will not be eligible for employee benefits or perks.

Role & Responsibilities:

• Brainstorm and create engaging and repeatable content for City Cast Chicago on social platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, and Reddit. 
• Participate in weekly brainstorm meetings to plan and conceptualize engaging social content 
• Help manage and execute the weekly content calendar, ensuring a consistent and strategic posting schedule
• Serve as a recurring face for the City Cast Chicago social media brand
• Collaborate with the City Cast Chicago production team to produce creative and informative videos and posts that resonate with local Chicagoans
• Work closely with the Director of Marketing to incorporate strategic feedback and improve collaborative workflow
• Stay up to date with the latest local trends, news cycles, and social media developments to ensure all content that’s posted is timely and relevant 
• Assist in analyzing social media metrics and adjusting strategies to optimize engagement and reach
• Interact with the online community to help build brand awareness and audience appreciation

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong proficiency with Instagram, including proven success with Instagram reels, static posts, and stories
• Additional experience with TikTok, Reddit, and/or Youtube is a plus
• Experience in video editing and content creation using tools like Adobe Premiere, InShot, CapCut, and Canva. 
• Excitement about covering a wide variety of topics: food and lifestyle, but also news, transportation, politics, and more. 
• Ideally familiarity with City Cast Chicago’s voice and tone, and an ability to adapt content to match it
• Comfort with brainstorming and executing creative content ideas, both independently and collaboratively
• The ability to create a consistent posting routine and consistently project the appropriate voice and tone of the City Cast brand

Requirements:

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in content creation or social media management, ideally in an editorial setting

This is a part-time, temporary 1099 contractor position. The role is expected to last three months, with a commitment of 20 hours per week. The hourly rate will range from $35-$45, depending on experience. As a contractor, you will not be eligible for employee benefits or perks (health insurance, paid time off, etc). This is a hybrid role, as you are required to reside in the metro area of Chicago, Illinois.
